Free Running

One of my goals is to move forward with Free Running/Parkour. The hard part will be deciding which area to put it in.
The obvious choice is Body. Clearly the demands of Free Running are tremendous, most of the Free Runners seem to have a strong background in gymnastics. If that's not enough, the official workout of the American Parkour (APK) is www.crossfit.com .

But what about Mind? if you head up to the APK website you'll find a nice section on how to start and even an excellent set of developmental exercises called Demon's Drills. One of my favorite was one that worked on the sense, planning routes and body movement in real time. Such mental gymnastics are impressive to say the least, it gave me a new appreciation of what is required mentally from Free Running.

Hey, what about Spirit? Watching clips of Parkour harken me back to tales of Tom Brown's Scout training as a young boy. Moving through environments (natural and man made) smoothly and silently. Such a fusion of Mind and Body must surely include the Spirit...

Count me in as a buddy on this. Maybe we could incorporate 10 min a day into the warmup? How about a goal of a spring trip to a group jam, where they'll teach beginners?

The other day I'm like, what the heck is parkour? that sounds familiar. So I wikipedia'd it and now I'm like OH YEAH! That's pretty dang cool! I agree that this cannot be just Body, though Body is going to be the core of it. Like a ny true art, there are multiple levels, and teh deeper you go in, the more it becomes an art of Mind & ultimately Spirit. You continue to find that all of these are truly interconnected, and that strengthening one yields results in all.

This is definitely true.
It leads to some interesting questions that I've been researching.
1) This process seems natural, and I might even say necessary? So why is this aspect missing from peoples lives and activities?
2) Is it related to the logical/reading dominance in our schooling and culture?
3) Is it really missing and I'm not recognizing it?
4) In what other aspects of our lives does this lack of the third part of the trinity affect us?
4A) How effective are we at 2/3rds(even less)?
4B) Maybe we should look at MB&S all together as the normal state? Kind of like the Zone, but applied to all aspects of life.

We definitely need to keep this conversation going, I'll definitely journal more on this subject. Whatever thoughts you guys have would definitely be appreciated!
